USA Visa Process

To study in the United States, international students must apply for an F-1 Student Visa (most common). Below is the complete visa process explained in simple steps:

  • 1. Get Admission & Receive the Form I-20 - Once you are accepted by a SEVP-approved university or college, you will receive the I-20 Form, which contains:
    Your program details
    • SEVIS ID
    • Program start date
    • Financial information
This form is required for your visa application.

  • 2. Pay the SEVIS Fee - Before applying for the F-1 visa, you must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee online. Keep the payment receipt—it is required for your interview.

    • Bank statements / financial proof
    • Academic certificates
    • Admission letter
    • If approved, your passport will be collected for visa stamping.

  • 7. Receive Your F-1 Visa - Once your visa is issued, you will get your passport with an F-1 visa stamp. You may enter the USA up to 30 days before your program start date.

  • 8. Travel to the USA & Complete Arrival Formalities - At the port of entry, U.S. Customs (CBP) will review your documents and issue an I-94 entry record.

  • 9. Begin Your Studies - You can now join your institution and start your academic journey in the USA.
Students with F-1 visas can also work on-campus part-time and apply for OPT/CPT programs based on eligibility.
